Default Horrible Game Lag Help

I am getting such terrible amounts of lag now and I don't know why it is happening.

I took a 1 1/2 break - 2 months and before this I never had any such problems where i've had such bad lag. None of my software has changed since then.

Now I cannot even PVP because my ping will raise up to about 3k and fps will drop. I was in ab and when there are no other people near me the game is playable but the fps is still crappy but once other people or mobs show up I lag so bad that I cannot even tell whats going on. The only thing I can do is some pve/solo farming and it still wil lag some.

I did the defragment thing on my c drive last night but that has changed nothing...

I was also told I should try to redownload the gw.dat file? to remove the current one and put it somewhere else because it might corrupt... would this help?

Any help would be great!

Could you post your system specs too. Also, you can always contact your ISP to see if they started to throttle the download rate for GW.

Lag is usually caused by internet connectivity issues, and not anything on your PC. Messing with your PC will not help.

Run a -diag.

If that doesn't identify a problem then try this: start->run->"cmd"->"tracert X.X.X.X" where X.X.X.X is the IP of a GW server (you can see the server IP on the loading screen and when you mouseover the "ping dot" in-game). Post the results and we'll try to locate the problem.

If you do a copy/paste, just change your IP address to "X.X.X.X." We don't need to see it to figure out what's going on. If you do a screenshot, just blur that portion before you post it.

Looks like one of your hubs you go through is bad. Contact ANET so they can contact that hub.

Good news is that it's definitely not your PC. The problem is with wherever that 8th hop is supposed to be going. It might belong to SBC, or it might belong to whoever the next intermediate carrier is. (Can't tell from this data.) Contact a-net and maybe they will try to contact the carrier with the problem. If SBC is your ISP, you should probably contact them too.

One other thing you might do is to repeat your tracert a bunch of times to see if maybe you can get the host on the 8th hop to respond once so we can identify it.

1. I suspect a-net will really want to know who the missing link is before they do anything. Run some more tracert's and see if you can get a result that goes a bit further before it dies, then send a-net both. They may ask you to download and run pingplotter, which does basically the same thing only with pretty pictures. (A-net support loves pingplotter.)

2. Go ahead and contact SBC now. Even if the missing link isn't them, they should be able to figure out who it is. You don't have to blank out anything for SBC, since they already know it.

3. (FYI: For posting tracert results here, you only need to blank out the first IP if you are connecting your PC directly to your modem, the first two IP's if you are connecting through a home router, and the first "few" IP's if you are connecting via a corporate or university network. The rest all belong to common carriers and don't tell the reader anything more about you than maybe general geographic location.)
